  2. Sheldon says:

My system was infected y the Clean this Virus earlier this evening. It does not allow you to access the internet but it allows you to backup your files and documents on an external HDD. Once done and specifically to dell I opted for restore factory settings. This errases everything on your system. You will need a Device Coputer Software CD and an operating system CD provided by the Computer manufacturer. Run these programs and your system will come back to normal. Email me for additional help –

  3. James says:

Theres another way however the other way is basically removing every single file on the computer, Factory reset is an option, i myself haven’t had this but it is acheivable as i have done it with another type of virus. However it is a massive inconvience as you then have nothing.

  9. Ruth says:

I was fooled into thinking clean this was a microsoft update and have tried for days to remove it. Every time the box popped up, I drug it to the bottom of my screen so I could have access to the screen. I logged on to AOL, downloaded all the updates free for Spybot, and did a complete scan of my computer. Sure enough, when I opened the scan information I had HKEY_Current_Users on the list twice as noted above. I clicked to remove them both and restarted my computer. The Clean This icon then came up on my shortcuts, I right clicked, clicked delete, and it is GONE finally. I still have to figure out how to restore my wallpaper behind the windows icons, but everything else is working great. Thank God for Spybot!

  10. Ruth says:

If you click on the box and drag it as far to the bottom of the computer as you can, you can get onto the internet. Download SpyBot free and do a full scan. It will pull up the HKEY_Current_User lines as listed above. Click fix the problem and remove. Restart computer and the icon will come up. Right click on it and click delete. Then go to recycle bin and permanently delete. Thank you makers of SpyBot!

  11. fareed says:

the two antiviruses here are just superb they work perfect. Thanks, u saved my laptop :D

  12. Aric says:

Have recently gotten this virus and it is the only thing that comes up on my computer. I got it once to allow me to go into my regular system, but as soon as I went to the “restore” option, I went to a blue screen and the whole computer restarted. It will not allow me to do anything with my computer without purchasing the “heuristic models” as it calls it. I have a Dell computer which was won in a lottery and so I don’t have the recovery system, but was wondering if anyone had some more tips (can you restore from the “backup” or “diagnostic” menu)? Even safe mode goes directly to the Clean This. I have done “restore disks” before and have only a few files that I would really lose–is this something Dell is good for? Please let me know. Thanks.

  13. mozaffar says:

    thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much

  14. John says:

To remove, start up in safe mode and go to Application Data (might be a hidden folder on some pc’s) and delete the gog executable.

  15. batoman99 says:

thank you for the tips to get rid of this virus i was about to give up and reinstall windows u are the man!!!

  16. ronkgman says:

How in the Hell can some entity force you to buy their product and get away with it??? Why hasn’t something been done about this before now!!?? This is akin to extortion, holding your computer hostage, where in the Hell is the law!!??

  17. thomass says:

just reboot on safe mode and run rstrui.exe and choose a time at which you have not this virus on your comp. and before that delete %Documents and Settings%\[User Name]\Application Data\gog.exe. I did this way. and at least for now it is gone :)

  18. thomass says:

then ofcourse scan with a real:) antiv app.

  19. Pat says:

I have the virus clean this. I have a dell and can’t get past the clean this blue window that pops up. Even is safe mode I get the clean this window. What can I do?

  20. thebean69 says:

It still starts in safe mode because it sets the shell to itself instead of explorer.exe

Use the CD for your current version of windows to boot from. Then use the recover mode to open up a command prompt. Navigate to and delete the gog.exe executable (“cd %appdata%” followed by “del gog.exe”), as well as the install directory in %appdata% (“del install”) and reboot. Then your system should boot normally. Then you can clean up the registry entries and scan for any other vulnerabilities.

Alternatively, you can try and log in as another user if you have multiple accounts. Since it seems to be user based, this should work but I have not tested it.

  21. mike says:

Microsoft security essentials did not find the clean this virus. Luckily I also had spybot installed and it did find it and removed it. I could not get into the regedit and rebooting into safe mode did no good either.

  22. charles says:

thanks so much people, able to remove using spybot, just download, do full scan and fix problem. Thank You spybot.

  23. Priyantha says:

  27. elizabeth says:

i am so stupid and i too know nothing about computers, but when this damn scam wouldnt let me do anything on my computer when i9 turned it on(and i mean i tried everything, it wouldnt even let me go past the page when offered to procede in safemode.
i felt like it was my only option.
i performed a full system recovery.
so i have two questions, if anyone knows the answers, please let me know:
1-now that i performed system recovery, is this clean this gone from pc, or is there something further i need to do?
2-is there a way of getting $$ back? how do i report these bastards? is there a way?
*************desperate for info & computer illiterate!!!*********

  28. brian says:

the clean this was removed when i booted up in safe mode , signed on as administrator. i did a search for “gog”. after deleting these files i searched the registry for “gog”. deleting these values. when i rebooted it normal mode it was gone.

  29. Laylah says:

Hey guys I just got rid of that clean this virus. I had an updated version however which locked me out of the task manager, the internet and all the other ways you guys were able to get rid of yours. I had to go in to my computer, C drive, Documents and Settings,User Name(all users), Application Data and where it said gog.exe i had to rename it to 123.exe then restart my computer and go back in and delete it then empty my recycle bin. Thanks 2 all of you for your different methods because with them combined and a little extra i am now able to use my internet again! facebook & twitter here i come! ….j/k lol :-)

  30. judy says:

Laylah thank you for the great tip about changing name of gog.exec to 123.exec–I was just about ready to take my laptop somewhere & be charged an arm & leg. I had a little trouble finding where to change it, but got it done–thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

  31. jay says:

********1) restart your computer on safe mode with networking
    2) go to start, and if you see safe start, let it scan. this
    enable Start button to activate.
    3) then go to Advance search “gog”
    4) when you find the file gog, right click and rename to “123″
this enables the virus to not detect itself.
    5) restart computer on normal mode, and advance search “123″
delete that file, and try internet. download power eraser

  32. Matt says:

Any safe mode setting still let ‘clean this’ start up and try and scan the computer before I could get anywhere and I was locked out. The only thing I could was to pick ‘repair system’ rather than a safe mode option on that screen. From there I restored my system to a point saved a few days ago. Once restarted the virus is gone.

  33. Harvey says:

When I follow the manual.I tried the ctel + n, It does not work.
    I cant start safe mode.

  34. Eugene says:

Hey guys I got the clean this virus and I have tried everything. When I boot up the computer in safe mode it just has a black screen behind it and none of the computer functions work any help will be greatly appriecated.

  35. Ron says:

Hi all, I followed the suggestion to access the Administrator, search for the file gog, delete it, empty the recycle bin and restart. I also ran the McAfee program on the computer, which found no virus. The problem is still there on my wife’s account. Any suggestions?

  36. Ron says:

Just an update. We left the computer off for a couple of days and when we got back on the virus was gone with a message from McAfee stating that it had removed a Trojan threat. If you get a pop up with a Microsoft logo warning that a Trojan virus has been detected, do NOTHING. It is a fake.

  37. DJBlueDee says:

TIP!! Please also remember to turn off “WINDOWS SYSTEM RESTORE” before you start removing viruses from PC. Because it wont do you good if jou removed viruses but it’s still hidden in Win Sys Restore. After viruses being fully removed, reboot PC and Turn on Windows SYSTEM RESTORE. (Most people forget about WIN SYS Restore)

  38. Bill says:

I seem to have an updated version of this virus. It will not let me boot from a CD, although the boot order is set to CD, HD, Net. Everything comes back to HD and ther Clean This virus. I tried replacing the hard drive with a blank drive and booting from the HP restore disc and it wouild not boot – it seems to have corrupted the BIOS. Will; next try to put a usable HD with a good OS in the machine, then, if I get control, download and install a good BIOS driver. Should be able to reformat the orighinal HD after that, I hope.

  39. qrrrrh says:

  40. Edmund says:

if Clean This torment you, just go to search and type in gog. Check the check its address from here and trace it. delete it and any other related file as stated above. If gog is not deleting just cut it and paste it on the desk top. Put off the pc and restart again. Now delete and it will go.
It realy tormented me for about for days denying me access to my own computer. where ever it came from I can’t tell. Hope it will work for you because it did the magic for me.
