Comparing panel options while buying a gaming monitor

If you are new to gaming, one of the first things you need is a gaming monitor. There are literally countless options in brands, models, and panels, and you can find some really good deals on online stores. Within a budget of $500 or less, you can buy a Primecables 4K gaming monitor, which has awesome reviews. There are various factors that determine the cost of a gaming monitor, one of which is the type of panel. In this post, we are comparing the common three panel options that matter.

  1. IPS Panel. The first option that we want to talk about is an IPS Panel. IPS stands for IPS Panels, which offers incredible color production, especially when compared to some of the other options. However, don’t expect good refresh rates with IPS Panels, and also, this kind panel doesn’t work as well when it comes to response time.
  2. TN Panels. The next panel on the list is an TN Panel, which stands for Twisted Nematic. If want a more responsive panel, that is something with better refresh rate, go for a TN panel, but don’t expect the same level of color reproduction and range as with IPS panels. TN panels are backwards in the truest sense when it comes to viewing angles.
  3. VA panels. VA stands for Vertical Alignment, which offers the best you can expect from both TN and IPS panels. Of course, this also means that these panels are a tad more expensive. Having said that, the response rate of VA panels may not be as great as a TN panel.

Which one is best?

There is no straight answer to that. If visuals and viewing angles matter over everything else, go for an IPS panel, while for competitive gamers, TN panels are a better choice. While VA panels are somewhere in between, offering the best of both but lacking in certain departments.

Final verdict

Check online for VA panels and review the response and refresh rates before you take the call. Also, go for at least a 4K panel for the best gaming experience. Think of a gaming monitor as an investment for the next few years, and therefore, if you end up spending more than what you had expected, you wouldn’t regret the same. We promise that all kinds of panels have a few pros and cons, and it all depends on what you want to spend too.
